Timeline:
This unit takes place during weeks 10 and 11 of the curriculum plan for this course. I thought a great deal about how to order my lessons. I decided to start with an interactive Smartboard Multimedia Inquiry Lesson to grab the student's interest and get them working. This unit is complex and difficult so I figured starting with this lesson might help them stay enthusiastic and motivated. I will then move into a direct instruction lesson, and then a group Cooperative Learning Lesson. The student's will be able to compare notes and knowledge and teach each other. In the second week I will seek to get the students to dig deeper with a Concept Attainment Lesson that ties everything together, followed by an Integrative Lesson where I will lead a discussion on the topics covered and the way they apply to real-life scenarios. Throughout this unit the students will be creating a project that includes examples and steps for each method and lesson taught. The students will then use the final lesson as a guide for creating their own problem involving Applications of Matrices and Determinants. It is my goal to maintain enthusiasm and interest in the topic for the entirety of this unit. I hope that by mixing group activities and lecture style lessons the students can remain focused and excited about learning.
